Do I need to register my online certificate with the City of Houston?
No. You do not need to go downtown! Effective September 1, 2025, the City of Houston updated its health code to align with Texas State Law. You are no longer required to register your certificate with the health department or pay any extra city fees. Your ACE certificate is valid the moment you finish the online class.
Is this online class valid in Harris County?
Yes. Because ACE Food Handler is licensed by the State of Texas (License #81), this online certification is accepted in:
- City of Houston
- Harris County
- Pasadena, Katy, Sugar Land, and Pearland
- All other Texas cities

No. Great news for Houston food workers! Effective September 1, 2025, the City of Houston has updated its food ordinances to align with Texas State Law. You are no longer required to take a specific “City of Houston” class or pay a separate registration fee to the health department.
