 Is BASSET training mandatory

Answer:
On July 1, 2015, a new state law took effect requiring all servers and bouncers (ie, those required to check identification for the purchase of alcohol) in Cook County on-premise establishments (bars, restaurants, banquet halls) to take BASSET Training every three years. Additionally, alcohol servers in the rest of the state will also be required to successfully complete BASSET in the coming years (click on Required Training Dates for more details). Please also note that over 200 local liquor license authorities have already established specific training requirements more stringent than the above state law as a condition for proper licensing or employment. It is the responsibility of all Illinois liquor license holders and staff to be aware of state and local liquor laws, rules, and regulations. Licensees and servers can visit the Local Survey page or call the village hall in the municipality they are operating to see if they are required to have BASSET training. Many independent businesses and corporate chains may require their employees to be BASSET Certified.
